Despite my initial confusion with how to add a WordPress theme, setting up my blog went fairly smoothly! The format’s flexibility and potential for customization is nice in theory, but since I’m just starting out, I found that I had more options than I knew what to do with.
I have some limited experience with maintaining an existing WordPress site as part of my work as an editor for Carleton’s undergraduate journal, but, as I quickly discovered, maintaining an existing site is not the same thing as creating a new one.
I think this website will primarily serve as a tool for this class, and not as a personal portfolio. However, I can definitely see advantages to making another website like this one in the future to highlight my professional accomplishments. There are many, many other “Sophie Lefebvres” out there on the world wide web (the name returns more than 200 results on LinkedIn and just as many on Facebook), and having my own footprint might make me easier to find for future employers!
