This was my first time using SketchUp and it was relatively easy to navigate the software. That being said, it did take me a while to get used to the visualization tools. Two quick tips here for any newbies + MacBook users out there:
- Use your trackpad with caution when zooming in/out. Otherwise, you might lose sight of all your tools and panels!
- To add specific measurements, just create whatever you need, let go of the trackpad/mouse, type the value(s) and press the return key.
Although SketchUp isn’t hard to use, recreating my childhood home was definitely more difficult than I thought. I lived in a small apartment so I wanted to draw an entire building but focus in on the exterior details of my home. Thus, only the bottom floor has windows and a non-random balcony. SketchUp reminds me of Minecraft, and I think both are excellent platforms for nurturing different people’s graphic design skills. Of course, the former has more accurate measurements and is not limited in the structures it can build, so I think this software would also come in handy for those trying to recreate spaces in order to uncover and better understand certain parts of history.

Yes I felt a strong urge to include all 21 floors and the roof did indeed look like that.

I unintentionally placed the default human figure inside the lobby.
