My Website (work in progress)

This is the link to my website: lie2.sites.carleton.edu

It is still under heavy construction as I try to wiggle my way through the infinite settings and possibilities offered by WordPress. Feel free to check it out, but I am afraid there’s not much to see over there, at least as of now.

What might I do with this? Geez, I am not too sure! I might eventually develop it into a personal/professional webpage for myself, since we could keep the content even after we graduate. Feels like that having my own website is the thing to do in this more and more digitalizing world. But also, how necessary is it? I don’t really know, but hopefully I will figure it out eventually!

The main benefit of “rolling one’s own” website is definitely the degree of freedom and control one has on what to do with their platform and how to do them. I don’t know too much about hosted service but on a social media platform, there’s only so much you can customize, while “rolling one’s own” website offer almost unlimited freedom. However, with great power comes great responsibilities. The internet can be a wild place if you are not well managed and protected by a service or by yourself, and one could be more vulnerable to malicious attacks when doing it all by themselves. There are probably a lot more complicated differences between the options, especially when it comes to legal issues and copyright claims and stuff like that, but since I have no knowledge in those fields I will just leave it as it is.
